You wanted a massive transfer deadline day story to happen in the final hour, didn’t you?
Well here’s one – Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has turned down a move to Premier League champions Chelsea… after changing his mind during his medical at the West London club.
A proposed £35million move was seemingly all but done for Barkley to seal a long awaited move away from Merseyside, but a late change of heart has seen him turn his back on the chance.
Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri told Sky Sports News that the clubs had agreed the terms of the transfer.
Moshiri added that it was during the medical that Barkley had changed his mind and wanted to reconsider his options in the January transfer window.
That means there is still a high possibility of Barkley leaving this season, but his incredible U-turn is a rarity on transfer deadline day.
The sensational U-turn also leaves Chelsea in a sticky situation, with the Blues still in the market for Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater.
The full story of why Barkley’s move has collapsed is yet to unravel, but you can expect this will rumble on and on for a few weeks.

Barkley had been itching for a move away from Goodison Park all summer, and manager Ronald Koeman had resigned himself to losing the England international.
However, as soon as it got to the move being almost completed, it has fallen through at the last minute.
