Ahh, the transfer window. The gift that keeps on giving.
Who would have thought Renato Sanches would be playing his football in Swansea this season?
Now West Ham or Spurs could be getting in on the Portuguese act with Barcelona offering Andre Gomes to both the London clubs.
How kind of you, Barcelona.
Even kinder, Barcelona will reportedly not ask for a fee for the temporary move.
Either West Ham or Spurs would only have to pay Gomes’ salary for his duration of the loan period.
However, it’s being reported that Spurs are pursuing the option of a clause which would allow them to buy him permanently next summer for £40million.
Gomes moved to the Nou Camp from Valencia last summer in a €55million deal, having been crowned a European Champion with Portugal.
But he started just 17 times in La Liga during a difficult first campaign, and is now seemingly surplus to requirements under new coach Ernesto Valverde.
Readers of Marca voted him the worst signing of the season ahead of Real Betis’ Roman Zozulya, whose campaign was disrupted by accusations of supporting paramilitary groups.
The big question is, how would Gomes handle a plate of pie, mash and eels?
And how will he find the transition from playing with Lionel Messi to Mark Noble or Ben Davies?
