Jack Wilshere could be a Championship footballer by later this evening.

The injury-plagued, unwanted Arsenal midfielder has emerged as a shock target for Harry Redknapp at Birmingham City, according to Sky Sports.

Wilshere, who was if you remember heralded as the next big thing and the saviour of English football at one point, has spent this summer working on his fitness with the Arsenal squad.

The 25-year-old suffered a hairline fracture of his tibia in a clash with Harry Kane while on loan at Bournemouth in April.

It’s fair to say the spell on the south coast didn’t exactly set the world alight, failing to score once and registering just two assists in 29 appearances.

But Redknapp, who has been tasked with turning a sinking Birmingham ship around, wants to inject some energy into his career again.

The Blues are also reportedly chasing ex-Arsenal star Alex Song in an attempt to build the most injury-prone, inconsistent midfield pairing of all time.

Wilshere, who was also a target for West Ham, was sent off last week in an Arsenal Under-23s game after sparking a 22-man brawl.
