The Everton midfielder featured in the Toffees’ fixture at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Sunday despite the fact his father was shot on Saturday.

Besic played 45 minutes against Chelsea

Meho Besic was shot in the hand and the leg following a dispute in Bosnia and was in hospital while the Premier League game took place.

The full extent of his injuries are unknown though they are not though to be life-threatening.

24-year-old Bosnian international Besic was brought on at half-time during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

Ronald Koeman said of the situation: “When I spoke to him, he said before the game he was ready and committed.

“I spoke to him yesterday evening. He spoke to his father. I don’t like to talk in more detail. This is a family matter.

“We will see what happens after the game. I don’t know exactly what happened, but what came out in the papers is true.”

We wish Besic senior a speedy recovery while Besic junior’s dedication to his club must be commended.
