Man United’s fast start to the season has got everyone talking about Romelu Lukaku.
With four goals in his first three official games Lukaku is doing United’s no.9 shirt justice.
But what of the former possessor of the iconic number, Zlatan Ibrahimovic?
It’s the worst kept secret in football that Ibrahimovic will be heading back to United, having been released at the end of last season.
But with the no.9 shirt no longer available, unless he fancies fighting Lukaku, what number will the Swede take?
Photos grabbed from adidas’ American online store appear to show that Ibrahimovic has taken the no.10 shirt.
The number was vacated by Wayne Rooney’s exit to Everton, so would be free for Ibrahimovic to take.
Only five players have worn United’s no.10 shirt since 1993. Can you name them?
Those players are Mark Hughes, David Beckham, Teddy Sheringham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rooney who all wore the number with distinction, aside from Beckham, who was more associated with the no.7.
Ibrahimovic wore the no.9 for Ajax and Juventus, before switching to no.8 when he joined Inter Milan.
The striker switched back to no.9 upon moving to Barcelona, before wearing the no.11, no.10 and no.9 for AC Milan, PSG and United respectively.
All this talk of numbers has got us feeling a bit dizzy, so we’re off for a lie down.
