Time for some uplifting news, folks.
Mario Gotze looks set to make his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund in seven months after being named in the starting line-up against Wolfsburg.
The midfielder has been out of action since January after club medics discovered he was suffering from myopathy, a rare metabolic illness that causes fatigue and weight gain.
The 25-year-old has been fighting to return to fitness ever since, and was seen training vigorously over the summer.
He then featured during Dortmund’s pre-season fixtures, but missed out on the Supercup loss to Bayern Munich with a back injury.
The World Cup winner’s career was said to be in serious danger, with club officials initially unsure how long he would be out of action for.
Myopathy causes weakness and rapid fatigue in the muscles, which for an athlete like Gotze can delay the recovery period needed after sport or strenuous activity.
So it’s great to see him back.
New coach Peter Bosz has included him in the line-up for the match at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday as BVB begin their new Bundesliga campaign.
Speaking on Thursday, Bosz said: “Mario has taken full part (in training) and it looks good.”
Elsewhere, wantaway forward Ousmane Dembele is NOT in the Dortmund squad.
The Frenchman is currently suspended for skipping training, with his future uncertain following interest from Barcelona.
