Harry Redknapp: Wembley is the reason Tottenham won’t win the Premier League this season

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp believes his old side would claim the title if they were still playing at White Hart Lane

Tottenham won’t win the Premier League title this season because they’re playing their home games at Wembley.

That’s according to ex-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who claims he would back his old side for the title if they were still playing at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham have temporarily relocated to the national stadium while development on their new ground continues.

Spurs have finished third and second in the last two Premier League seasons and many fancy them to go one better this year, but Redknapp isn’t one of them.

“No I’m not backing them for the title this year,” he told Dream Team at our live Q and A event.

“I would have done had they’d been playing at White Hart Lane.

“I think taking away White Hart Lane and the atmosphere is just such a disadvantage to them.”

And Harry’s got a point.

Tottenham’s form at Wembley is terrible in recent years, particularly last season when they knocked out of the Champions League at the group stages following defeats to Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.

Spurs also lost in the FA Cup semi-finals on the same ground in May to arch rivals Chelsea and Redknapp believes the so called ‘Wembley curse’ is the reason for their torrid set of results there.

He added: “I said it last year the Champions League and playing at Wembley is the biggest challenge for them and it proved that way.

“They couldn’t win there – they even lost to a poor team in the Europa League.

“I think Wembley is going to be a big problem [this year too].”
