If you manage to make the last stage of a tournament and Real Madrid are your opposition then there’s not much point in turning up.
It has been 17 years since Madrid last lost in the final of an international tournament, with a 2-1 win against Man United adding the UEFA Super Cup to their burgeoning trophy cabinet.
But can you name the last side to beat Madrid in an international final?
Cast your minds back to 2000, when we were all still getting over the shock of surviving the Millennium bug.
Madrid took on Boca Juniors in the Intercontinental Cup, which featured the winners of the Champions League and the winners of the Copa Libertadores.
In the white corner was Iker Casillas, Roberto Carlos, Claude Makelele, Luis Figo, Steve McManaman and Raul.
In the blue corner was Juan Roman Riquelme and Martin Palermo.
What should have been a mismatch proved to be exactly that, but not quite in the way most people expected.
After six minutes Boca found themselves 2-0 up thanks to two goals from Palermo.
A strike by Carlos six minutes later halved the deficit but Madrid couldn’t find an equaliser, with Boca claiming the trophy.
Riquelme and co were the heroes back in Buenos Aires.
So all you need to beat Madrid in an international final is a little bit of Riquelme. Dust off those boots Juan.
