Barcelona are dipping into their massive sack of Neymar money to break Liverpool hearts.
Los Cules have reached an agreement in principle to sign Philippe Coutinho as Neymar’s replacement, according to ESPN.
Barcelona will pay £81.6million initially in a deal that could rise up to £108.8million.
We’re just not sure what to think about the transfer market any more.
On the face of it, Liverpool receiving more for Coutinho than Man United paid for Paul Pogba and Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale is a good deal.
But when you look at it in the context of Liverpool losing their best player for less than half of what PSG paid for Neymar it becomes more clouded.
A delegation from Barcelona have already reportedly travelled to Liverpool to finalise negotiations for the Brazilian, who is keen to move to Spain.
It was Coutinho’s desire to join Barcelona that pushed the deal on, despite Jurgen Klopp previously telling Ernesto Valverde to save his energy.
Liverpool would be in line for a massive profit on a player they signed for £8.5m from Inter Milan in 2013.
He started 28 league games last season, scoring 13 goals and providing a further seven assists.
But Coutinho is seen as a future replacement for Andres Iniesta as much as he’ll be replacing Neymar.
So, Borussia Dortmund, if you thought Ousmane Demebele was safe, think again.
