Gareth Bale’s future could rest on Real Madrid UEFA Super Cup start

Jose Mourinho has hinted that he'll try and sign Bale if the Welshman is left out of Madrid's starting XI

Jose Mourinho could start a fight in an empty room.

We now face weeks of ‘will he, won’t he?’ around Gareth Bale’s move to Man United after Mourinho’s latest comments.

Ahead of United’s UEFA Super Cup tie with Real Madrid, the 54-year-old has given the press more than a little to chew on.

Mourinho is quoted in The Times as saying: “If he’s playing tomorrow it’s because he’s in the coach’s and club’s plans and because he has ambition to continue at Real Madrid.

“I haven’t even thought of the possibility of signing him.”

So United aren’t after Bale? Not so quickly.

Mourinho continued: “If he’s not in the club’s plans and what you are writing is true, that the arrival of another player would mean Gareth would be on his way out of Real Madrid.

“I would be waiting for him on the other side and be fighting with the other coaches who would like to have him.”

Ahh Jose, the king of spin.

Zinedine Zidane is now damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, with 21-year-old Marco Asensio pushing Bale hard for a starting spot.

The sequel to ‘Neymar goes to Paris’ is well underway.
