Monaco are turning to an Aston Villa defender to replace Benjamin Mendy

Monaco are reportedly lining up Jordan Amavi to replace the space at left-back left by Mendy's move to Man City

From crossing for Gabby Agbonlahor to supplying Kylian Mbappe.

Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi could be set for quite a step up this summer after overcoming a serious knee injury.

The 23-year-old is being tipped for a move to Monaco before the transfer window closes, according to Yahoo Sport France.

Monaco, who kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign with a 3-2 win against Toulouse, are still looking to strengthen at left-back following Benjamin Mendy’s £52million move to Man City.

Leonardo Jardim has brought in Terrence Kongolo from Feyenoord, while Brazilian Jorge started the first league game on the left of Monaco’s defence.

But Monaco appear to be intent on bringing another left-back to the club and have contacted Amavi’s entourage.

Amavi stood out for Villa in a season that finished in relegation, although his campaign was stopped early by a ACL tear.

He bounced back to play 34 times last season, with Villa turning down a £25mil bid from the Chinese Super League for his services.

Amavi has plenty of experience playing in Ligue 1 having spent two seasons with Nice before moving to England.

But while Monaco can offer improved wages and the chance to play in the Champions League, they can’t offer the chance to play alongside John Terry and Chris Samba at the back.
