Barcelona are reportedly going to offer Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes as bait in a part exchange bid for Philippe Coutinho.
The Spanish giants are desperate to land Liverpool playmaker Coutinho in the aftermath of Neymar’s world record £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports that all Barca approaches have so far been rebuffed.
NOT PICKED YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAM YET? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
In fact, determined Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted none of his star players will be sold this summer.
Now it appears Barcelona would be prepared to offer a player as well as money in exchange for No 1 target Coutinho.
Otherwise they could have to go as high as £120m to finally prise the Brazilian out of Anfield.
Gomes signed for Barcelona from Valencia for £29m last summer.
He has struggled to win over supporters since signing, starting only 17 of their La Liga games last season.
The 24-year-old Portugal international would improve Liverpool’s midfield options, but Klopp is unlikely to think it worth selling Coutinho just to get him.
If Coutinho continues to push for an exit then Liverpool may have to consider the deal but there is no need for the Reds to initiate a move.
Perhaps their priority should be another more creative midfielder if Coutinho leaves, especially given the fact that injured Adam Lallana is out for two months.
