Hector Bellerin costs Arsenal a goal as he decides to take a quick nap during Community Shield

The Spanish wing-back was at fault for Victor Moses' opener at Wembley

Poor Hector Bellerin must not have got enough sleep last night.

The Spanish wing-back was caught taking a quick nap just after half-time during the Community Shield as Chelsea took the lead through Victor Moses.

The Gunners were undone by a simple header back towards goal by Gary Cahill which somehow found its way into the path of Chelsea’s own marauding wing-back.

Granit Xhaka failed to clear his lines convincingly from a corner and when Cahill nodded the ball hopefully back in the box, Moses seemed to have found a blind spot in Arsenal’s back line.

However, replays showed that Bellerin had a clear view of Moses’ run and was the only Arsenal player who could have snuffed out the danger.

Rather than tracking Moses’ run, the 22-year-old appealed for offside even though he knew Moses was well onside.

There was clearly no audible call from Bellerin either as by the time Rob Holding was aware of Moses’ presence it was too late.

The Nigeria international judge his first touch well and maintained his composure to finish past Petr Cech to give Antonio Conte’s men the lead.

Arsenal fans were less than impressed with Bellerin’s efforts…

Barcelona’s signing of Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo gave Arsenal fans reason to cheer earlier in the summer but now it seems many of them would have preferred if Wenger had cashed in on the La Masia graduate.

In contrast, Arsenal’s new wing-back endeared himself to fans further.

Sead Kolasinac headed home the Gunners’ equaliser seconds after Pedro was sent off for a nasty challenge on Mohamed Elneny.

Sorry, Hector, there’s a new favourite in town.
