Burnley’s preparation for the new season has hit a snag, after their friendly clash against newly-promoted Bundesliga side Hannover 96 was called off at half-time on advice from local police.
The Clarets were leading 1-0 after the opening half, but clashes between rival fans in the stands saw the game called off.
BFC columnist Andrew Greaves, who was live tweeting events from the game, reported that “Burnley fans in concourse of Cricket Field Stand say they saw Germans fans with knives” before posting a video of violent clashes between supporters.
Who on earth travels to Burnley from Hannover to cause trouble?
Centre-back Ben Mee scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game in the 41st-minute.
According to reports, seats were ripped up and thrown by visiting supporters, who surged towards the home end in the Cricket Field Stand.
Burnley launch their Premier League campaign away to champions Chelsea on 12 August.
Let’s hope that goes a bit better, eh lads?
