Diego Costa to hand in transfer request and demand to be sold to only one club

Costa wants a return to Atletico Madrid and won't settle for any other club

Diego, Diego, Diego.

Diego Costa wants out of Chelsea, and he wants out now.

The 28-year-old has reportedly handed in a transfer request in a bid to push through a move to former club Atletico Madrid.

NOT PICKED YOUR FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAM YET? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Costa doesn’t want to go anywhere but Atletico so there’s no point in ringing him, Southend United.

He had been linked with a move to AC Milan but their recent transfer splurge and Costa’s unwillingness to look outside of Madrid means that’s now likely to be dead in the water.

So now, after three years at Stamford Bridge, it seems Costa’s Chelsea journey has come to an abrupt halt.

Despite, or maybe because of, his tendency to fly off the handle he’ll be missed.

Costa won two Premier League titles and a League Cup during his time in London, as well as being named in the Premier League Team of the Year following an impressive first season.

While a return to Atletico would be romantic, there’s one pretty major flaw in the storyline.

Atletico are currently under a transfer ban so wouldn’t be able to register Costa until January of next year.

If Costa was signed he would likely have to go out on loan, as was the case when Atletico bought Vitolo from Sevilla.

Spain international Vitolo has been loaned to Las Palmas for the first half of the season until Atletico can register him.

So maybe Costa will end up at Southend for a spell after all.
