Francesco Totti’s final shirt for Roma has been launched into space

The legendary Italian retired at the end of last season, ending his 24-year playing career with Roma

It doesn’t get much bigger than Francesco Totti, does it?

The legendary Italian is one of football’s most enduring names, having spent his entire 24-year playing career with Roma before retiring at the age of 40 back in May.

The forward scored 307 goals in 786 appearances for the Giallorossi, having made his debut aged 16 in 1993.

He won just one Serie A title with his beloved club, but did lift the World Cup with Italy in 2006.

And while his name will forever be sung around the Stadio Olimpico, the club have decided to go beyond the stratosphere to honour their greatest ever servant.

On Tuesday, history was made as Totti’s final Roma shirt was launched into space.

No, really.

Totti’s iconic No 10 shirt, which he wore in the club’s last match of the Serie A campaign on May 28 against Genoa, was been placed into a rocket and sent into space.

The ambitious venture has been brought to life by Avio, a worldwide leader in space travel, and was launched from French Guyana.

So just think, the next time you look up at the stars, there’s a little piece of Totti memorabilia floating about up there.
