Part of the excitement when a new player signs for a club is seeing what number they pick.
Just look at AC Milan’s new signings, who’ve chosen numbers ranging from a classic nine to a flair 79.
So when Neymar signs for PSG (sorry Barcelona fans, it’s going to happen) there’s bound to be plenty of intrigue around the number he picks.
Neymar has worn the number 11 at Santos and Barcelona, while wearing the number 11 and the number ten for Brazil.
But what number will he select for PSG?
We’ve tried to get inside the mind of the Brazilian and guess what he’ll pick. Don’t blame us if we get it wrong- we won’t be offering refunds.
With the Neymar brand so closely linked to the number 11 it makes sense for the 25-year-old to take it again when he moves to the French capital.
There’s a slight problem though- Angel Di Maria.
Di Maria has been wearing the number 11 shirt since moving from Man United, so he’ll have to be moved aside in order for Neymar to inherit it.
But with rumours of a move away- both as a makeweight in the Neymar deal and with Inter Milan circling- Neymar might not have to make that awkward phone call to Di Maria.
Could Neymar do a David Beckham and take the number 23?
His collaboration with Michael Jordan on the Neymar Jr x Jordan Nike Hypervenom collection gave an insight into his love for the Jumpman.
Neymar has talked about his admiration for Jordan, who made the number 23 famous, on several occasions.
But again, that number is blocked at the moment, with Julian Draxler currently in possession. We cant see him moving aside any time soon.
PSG have plenty of tradition when it comes to the number ten.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ronaldinho, Jay-Jay Okocha and Vikash Dhorasoo all wore the number, as well as some slightly less iconic players in Stephane Sessegnon and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Neymar will need to convince Javier Pastore to give it up, which might be tricky given the Argentinian is reportedly a favourite of PSGs owners.
But he’s worn the number for Brazil, so it wouldn’t be too big a culture shock.
The lowest number currently available in the PSG squad is 13.
It was worn by fellow Brazilian Alex during his two seasons in Paris, in which he won two league titles, a Coupe de la Ligue and a Tophee des Champions.
Clearly it wasn’t that unlucky for Alex. But how superstitious is Neymar?
