Gerard Pique’s ‘he stays’ tweet wasn’t official confirmation of Neymar’s future

Pique's tweet wasn't a confirmation that Neymar was staying but one that was based on personal opinion

It’s the transfer saga to end all transfer sagas. The one deal to rule them all.

Will Neymar stay at Barcelona and continue playing as one-third of MSN, or will he go and join his fellow Brazilians at PSG?

We thought it had all become clear when Neymar’s Barcelona team-mate Gerard Pique tweeted ‘he stays’ while with the former Santos forward.

But not so quickly.

It turns out Pique’s tweet wasn’t as official as Barcelona fans would like to have you believe.

Speaking before Barcelona’s game against Man United Pique backtracked on the idea that his tweet put an end to the whole saga.

Pique said: “My Instagram post was a gut thing. I want Neymar to stay.”

Ahh, so maybe it’s not all over.

Pique continued: “I told Neymar don’t go to a league like France, where the only important competition is the Champions League. I gave him this advice as a friend.”

Javier Mascherano also chimed in on Neyxit, saying: “Pique’s tweet represents the sentiment of all the team. Everyone at Barcelona wants Neymar to stay.

“What Pique said is a wish, only Neymar can decide his future and announce it in public.”

The sooner Paulinho arrives at Barcelona the better.
