Chelsea do their best impression of Arsenal in first-half against Bayern Munich

The German giants put the Blues to the sword with an impressive first half performance

Ah, the weird and wonderful world of pre-season friendlies.

Chelsea took on Bayern Munich in China, hoping to build on their impressive 3-0 victory over Arsenal at the weekend.

But things didn’t exactly go to plan for Antonio Conte’s side in the opening stages of their game against the German giants.

In fact, they went terribly.

Granted Chelsea’s team wasn’t exactly littered with their A-listers, with the likes of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata not starting, the XI they sent out still contained first-teamers such as Gary Cahill, Willian and N’Golo Kante.

But it wasn’t long until Bayern started having fun with the West Londoners, going ahead through Rafinha in the sixth minute.

Just five minutes later they doubled their lead, with Franck Ribery skipping past Cesar Azpilicueta before finding Thomas Muller, who volleyed home from close range.

Muller was in on the action again on 26 minutes, bending in a beauty past Thibaut Courtois from outside the area.

Needless to say, some fans were quick to jump on the Chelsea-demise train…

Chelsea did pull a goal back late on in the half through Marcos Alonso, who fired in a fantastic strike from 15 yards to make it 3-1.

Two more goals for Bayern in the second half, and all the laughing will be from Arsenal fans, who have been there time and time again.

It’s a bit of an exaggeration, and we also haven’t forgotten that Arsenal did actually beat Bayern Munich earlier in pre-season.

But even still, that was with a late header, and then on penalties.

Odds on 5-1, anyone?
