A CHAPECOENSE player’s widow has given birth to their son, eight months after her husband was killed in the tragic plane crash and announced the news on social media.
Tiaguinho’s wife, Graziele de Aquino Alves, has paid tribute to her late husband and named the baby Tiago in his memory.
Aleves, 20, broke the news online that their ‘warrior’ baby was born on Wednesday, 19 July and would be named after his footballer father.
Tiaguinho,22, was one of the 19 players from Brazilian team, Chapecoense, who tragically lost his life when the plane crashed in November 2016.
The couple had been married for just under a year when he was killed and had only broken the news to him in early November that she was one month pregnant.
On her Instagram page, Aleves has fittingly paid tribute to her husband since the tragedy and has shared her experiences of facing pregnancy alone.
She emotionally wrote online that the baby’s arrival would help to “dampen the nostalgia and to alleviate the anguish and pains in our hearts.”
The Brazilian football team were due to take part in their first leg of the Sudamericana final for the first time in the club’s history, when the plane they were travelling on crashed.
The plane had 77 people on board, when it crashed into a mountain in Columbia, only six survivors were pulled from the wreckage.
