Arsenal’s hectic pre-season continued yesterday as they overcame Bayern Munich in a sweltering Shanghai.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring from the penalty spot after nine minutes and Bayern looked to have wrapped things up before a late Alex Iwobi header levelled it at 1-1 and the game would go to penalties.
Arsenal eventually won the penalty shootout 3-2 after both Renato Sanches and Juan Bernat missed their spot kicks – Ending Arsenal’s miserable run against Bayern Munich.
The Arsenal squad were then presented with some silverware but Petr Cech had bigger things on his mind.
Before he held the trophy aloft, Cech was heard to say: “Let’s lift the big one at the end of the season.”
Cech’s words have confirmed Arsenal’s intentions to challenge for the title and this will be a relief for Arsenal fans to hear as they accuse their side regularly of not having a winning mentality or drive to succeed.
Needless to say, the Gunners faithful were pretty pleased to hear one of their players not getting too carried away with a minor pre-season trophy.
