Romelu Lukaku’s move to Manchester United is likely to be the biggest transfer business completed this summer in the Premier League.
The Belgian striker’s £75m move from Everton was completed earlier this month after he opted to join Jose Mourinho’s revolution rather than return to Chelsea.
And Lukaku’s Belgium international team-mate Vincent Kompany has waxed lyrical about the striker, underlining why United were so desperate to fend off their rivals to claim his signature.
The Manchester City captain claims Lukaku believes he is the best player in the world which is why he is destined for big things.
He told ESPN FC: “The key thing with him is he believes he’s the best player in the world.
“It doesn’t matter whether he is or he isn’t, that’s the way he approaches every single training session, that’s the way he approaches every game.
“If you think you are the best you can never really be satisfied with yourself and therefore you always keep working harder and harder and that’s what he does.
“It’s a special player to have but there will be a lot of competition this season.”
Kompany, who was speaking ahead of the Manchester derby in Houston between the two rivals, embarked on a similar career journey to Lukaku and admits he’s watched the striker develop into the player he is today.
“The one thing you get when you have Romelu is an incredible drive to improve and to score goals,” he added.
“It’s something really unique that I’ve been able to observe over the years because he’s been a player from Anderlecht, which is the same youth system where I come from and I’ve really followed his progress.”
