A bit of rustiness is expected in pre-season training.
But even the most decadent of footballers should be able to play a five-yard pass whenever required.
Man United attempted to inject some light-hearted humour into the world of transfer talk tedium with a short video of the squad training.
The club sold the video as a warning of the dangers of being a sports photographer but the real narrative is Marouane Fellaini’s shocking passing.
Take a look before we evaluate…
He starts the passing drill with a leisurely left-footed lay-off (possibly underhit) but by the time the ball comes back to him he hammers it at a by-standing coach not involved in the exercise.
The ball then cannons off an innocent photographer’s head and Fellaini doesn’t bother with an apology as he trots off to fetch his misdirected pass.
Needless to say, United fans weren’t too impressed with their midfielder…
Fellaini is far from the most popular player among United fans and this clip would have reinforced the collective desire for Jose Mourinho to sign Monaco’s Fabinho.
