Alexandre Lacazette outshined by Olivier Giroud as Arsenal end Australian Tour with victory

The Gunners' new £50m-man made his starting debut, but couldn't get on the score-sheet - while in-demand Giroud did

All eyes were on new boy Alexandre Lacazette as he started his first game for Arsenal against West Sydney Wanderers.

But it was another French forward in the shape of Olivier Giroud who impressed during their final pre-season friendly in Australia.

Giroud grabbed the opener at the stunning ANZ Stadium as he started in the same team as Lacazette.

The pair struggled to linked up together, although Lacazette did have a hand in the build up to Giroud’s goal.

The new signing started in a support role to Giroud alongside Alex Iwobi, while a three-man defence was flanked by youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Nacho Monreal was particularly impressive in the first 45 minutes, setting up Giroud’s opener and Aaron Ramsey’s superb chip.

The seldom-seen Mo Elneny wrapped up the Arsenal scoring in 11 first-half minutes when his effort deflected in off WSW’s Brendan Hamill.

West Sydney pulled one back in the second half when a Ramsey pass back was picked up by goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic, resulting in a mad indirect freekick within the box, with every Arsenal player standing on the goal-line.

Crikey, you don’t see that too often do you?

Despite his performance, Giroud has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham this summer, but he could remain at the Emirates and challenge for a starting role.
