MANCHESTER UNITED could use Matteo Darmian as makeweight to land Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.
According to reports, the Red Devils are willing to go the extra mile to push through Jose Mourinho’s desired transfers.
And they are considering including Italy international Darmian in order to get the 28-year-old Croatia international to Old Trafford.
Mourinho wants a new wide-man at United, with Ashley Young’s future looking in doubt.
And despite Darmian occupying the left-back position with distinction last season, the Italian media have regularly linked the former Torino man with a switch back to Serie A.
Inter are currently attempting to balance their books, despite city rivals AC Milan spending on some top European names.
A number of Italian outlets have reported that Perisic has been offered a new contract with the Nerazzurri with improved terms and an increased buy-out clause.
But Perisic rejected a £68,000-a-week deal, with the knowledge that he could earn more in the Premier League before he turns 30.
Perisic will be an ideal Mourinho signing and offers the versatility the Portuguese manager craves, even if he lacks some creative finesse.
But with United about to head off on pre-season tour, it is unlikely any move will be completed in time for the club’s flight to the West Coast of the United States.
Louis van Gaal signing Darmian has played 58 games for United since joining in 2015.
The 27-year-old is well thought of in his home country and has been enjoying his honeymoon after getting married to Francesca Cormanni last month.
