Nathaniel Chalobah’s long spell on the peripherals at Chelsea is finally coming to an end it seems, with Watford reportedly close to adding the England youngster to their ranks.
And if all goes to plan, then Chalobah will be roaming the centre of Vicarage Road with his Under-21 teammate Will Hughes this season, making the Hornets’ midfield one of the more pleasing in the Premier League.
The duo have been long-time teammates at various youth levels for England and were together during the Young Lions’ European Under-21 Championship campaign over the summer.
Despite losing to Germany (on penalties, in the semi-final, blah blah blah), Aidy Boothroyd’s side were highly praised, with Chalobah and Hughes two of the best performers for the national team.
England boss Gareth Southgate reportedly has high hopes for Chalobah in particular, and believes that the starlet can force his way into the senior set-up with a run of games in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, first-team opportunities have been few and far between at Chelsea for Chalobah, who’s had to make do with the odd appearance in Cup competitions, or out on loan.
In fact, the defensive midfielder has had SIX different loan spells away from Stamford Bridge over the last few years, with his most recent coming in the unfamiliar territory of Napoli in 2016.
And with the Blues edging closer to signing Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko, it’s high time the 22-year-old left the side for pastures new for the good of his career.
In comparison, Hughes has built his reputation with consistent performances in the Championship with Derby, finally earning himself a move to the Premier League with the Hornets this summer.
We’re pretty excited to see the duo link-up in the yellow and black of Watford this season.
And you never know, they could be future midfield partners for the England in a few years.
