Southampton agree £12million deal with Premier League club for Jay Rodriguez

Baggies and Saints come to agreement over English striker with the fee potentially rising to £15m

WEST BROM have reportedly agreed a £12million deal with Southampton for Jay Rodriguez as Tony Pulis begins his summer spending spree.

The England international returned from a devastating injury this season but has lost his place in the Saints starting XI.

Rodriguez’s fee could rise to £15m as Southampton are reluctant to see the forward leave the club.

Should the Baggies sign the Englishman it will be their first transfer of the summer and only their second signing of 2017.

Pulis was keen to secure a loan deal for Rodriguez last summer but was blocked on deadline day by former saints boss Claude Puel.

The 27-year-old has grown frustrated at his lack of game time over the last year and is eager to earn first team football.

This transfer is only the start of Pulis’ spending spree that will take place this summer as the Welshman aims to strengthen his squad and improve on the clubs 10th place finish.

He has made the forward position a priority for this summer as the club relied on Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu for much of the last campaign.

Capped once by England, Rodriguez’s scored 35 goals in 126 games after joining the Saints from Burnley in June 2012.

The departure could see the Saints move to sign another striker to fill the speedster’s spot in the squad.
