When Luis Enrique announced he was leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, he claimed his reasoning behind the decision was “to rest”.
But according to the Telegraph, the Spaniard is a strong candidate to take over at Chelsea should Antonio Conte leave the club before the new season.
Conte’s future at the Blues is reportedly far from certain, with various outlets claiming the Italian is unhappy with the club’s transfer dealings so far this summer.
Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku have been on the gaffer’s wishlist for quite some time, yet Chelsea have failed to make any signings so far.
What’s more, the club’s hierarchy are said to be concerned with Conte’s decision to tell striker Diego Costa that he is no longer wanted via an informal text message.
To be fair, that was pretty savage Antonio.
However, Chelsea currently have no intention of allowing Conte to leave the club despite his recent frustration.
But if he was to leave, the club would have plenty of options, including Enrique.
The former Barca manager would be an ideal replacement, having won the Champions League and the domestic league and cup double in 2015, coupled with plenty of experience dealing with players at the very top of the game.
You never know.
