Radja Nainggolan names his hardest opponent and it’s not who you’d expect

The Roma midfielder has played against some of Europe's best players but named Napoli's Jorginho as his hardest opponent

Radja Nainggolan has played against some of the best midfielders in the world this season.

From Miralem Pjanic and Marek Hamsik to Marcelo Brozovic and Corentin Tolisso the 29-year-old has tested himself at the highest level.

So when asked who the hardest opponent he’s faced this season was, there’s no shortage of names he could have come up with.

But, speaking to Roma’s official website, Nainggolan sprung something of a surprise in the player he selected.

Nainggolan said: “Hardest opponent in this season? Napoli’s Jorginho, but probably not for the reason you think.

“He always plays in tight situations and passes very close to him. It’s very hard follow him and stop his plays.

“You get tired cause he moves the ball very fast, but he didn’t even move himself.

“Not that i was in trouble when we met, but you need a lot of energy to keep up with him and stop him. It can he hard sometimes.


Nainggolan came up against the Italy international twice this season, with honours even between the pair.

He was on the winning side as Roma beat Napoli in the Stadio San Paolo, playing 79 minutes of the game before being replaced.

Five months later he played the entire game as Roma lost 2-1, although Jorginho was subbed off in the 66th minute.
