Alcohol has its benefits. Alcohol has its disadvantages. It’s the nature of the beast.
Footballers aren’t immune from those disadvantages, even in the wake of a Champions League final victory.
After Real Madrid’s comfortable 4-1 win against Juventus on Saturday left-back Marcelo cracked a couple of cold ones with the lads.
No problem with that. If ever there’s a time to celebrate it’s after a comprehensive win in the hardest club competition around.
But Roberto Carlos revealed that it all got a bit confusing for Marcelo when the Brazilian entered the changing room after the game.
Speaking to Onda Cero, Carlos said: “Marcelo drunkenly came into the dressing room and asked why everyone was wearing his number 12.”
Now, we can see why that might be a tad confusing for Marcelo.
After all, the Brazilian does wear the number 12. Maybe his team-mates just wanted to give him the credit he deserves following his stunning season?
Madrid’s players were all wearing the number 12, which just so happens to be Marcelo’s squad number, to celebrate a 12th European Cup win.
So there you have it. Case solved. Time to crack a cold one.
Is Marcelo the best left-back ever?
