You’ve heard of the ‘next Messi’. You’ve heard of the ‘next Neymar’. But have you heard of the ‘Turkish Dybala’?
That’s the nickname 19-year-old forward Cengiz Under has been given after his performances for Basaksehir this season.
While we can’t offer you the Argentinian Dybala, Spurs fans, we can offer you the Turkish one.
Spurs have reportedly tied up a deal to sign Under for £8million, beating Man United in doing so, according to Turkish radio station Radyospor.
The 19-year-old started his career at Izmir-based Altinordu, spending two years at the club before moving to his current side.
It’s at Basaksehir that Under has been playing with an ex-Spurs striker, none other than Emmanuel Adebayor.
Internationally he played for Turkey’s Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-21s prior to making his senior debut, against Kosovo, in November 2016.
He followed that up with a goal in his second cap, against Moldova, last March.
Those performances have clearly caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino, who’s developed a reputation for blooding young players in his first-team.
If he was to sign for Spurs, Under would become the first Turkish player to feature for the club during the Premier League era.
So, regardless of how good he does, he can always say he’s the best Turk in Spurs’ history.
