Antoine Griezmann has given an update on what promises to be the summer’s most tediously drawn out transfer saga.
The Atletico Madrid forward said his chances of joining Man United are currently ‘six out of 10’.
The revelation came on a French chat show where Griezmann also said the move was ‘possible’.
The 26-year-old was surprisingly open about his future having previously been typically diplomatic with his answers regarding a potential move to Old Trafford.
The interviewer asked him what the chances were of joining United on a scale of one to ten, to which Griezmann replied: “Six”.
The interviewer added: “That’s quite a lot, you understand what you’re saying…?”, to which Griezmann replied: “Yes”.
He was then asked whether it was the first time he had spoken about a United move publicly, to which he again said “Yes, the first time”.
Griezmann also confirmed that he should know more on the situation “in the next two weeks” – which could refer to United’s all-or-nothing Europa League final against Ajax on Wednesday.
Champions League football is a must for Griezmann, and should Mourinho’s side beat their Dutch opponents, they would play in that tournament next season – so it is potentially a clincher.
Although the message was largely positive, Griezmann’s answer may have jarred with some United fans.
Mourinho’s side spent the majority of the season in 6th place, even after a 25-game unbeaten run, much to the amusement of opposition fans.
Griezmann has long been linked with a move to Man United ever since he revealed his admiration for Red Devils legend, David Beckham.
The Frenchman ‘got into’ tattoos, alternative hairstyles and the No7 because of Becks.
And now that the man himself has announced a 60% chance of becoming United’s new No7, fans may start to feel optimistic about the new before the current campaign has concluded.
A word of advice though, Antoine, avoid saying ‘six’ for a while.
