Chelsea paid tribute to their long-serving captain by taking him off after 26 minutes.
And while we understand the sentiment, it does seem a little odd.
Chelsea face Sunderland at Stamford Bridge in the final game of the season, with Terry given a rare start by manager Antinio Conte in what will be his last ever game for the Blues.
And with 26 minutes on the clock, and the score locked at 1-1, the Bridge gave one last salute to the Chelsea legend as he left the field of play to a rapturous reception.
To make the moment even more cringe-worthy, the Chelsea players insisted that Sunderland kick the ball out into touch, so Conte could make the substitution on the fabled 26th minute.
After hugging everyone within sight, JT walked towards the bench for one last time as the remaining Blues players rocked out a guard of honour for their beloved captain.
He seemed to appreciate it.
Of course, we won’t mention how today marks the nine year anniversary of Terry’s famous slip in the 2008 Champions League final, which handed the trophy to Manchester United.
