All the rules go out the window on the last day of the season.
Take Man United, for example, who named a first XI containing the squad numbers 40, 39, 35, 38 and 46.
In north London there was an equal dosage of strangeness, as Danny Welbeck simultaneously managed to provide the miss of the season and assist of the season in one feel swoop.
Mesut Ozil was at the heart of things, as he normally is when Arsenal score.
His ball across the face of goal found Dat Guy Welbz, who stabbed his foot towards the pig’s bladder with a fair bit of force.
Unfortunately the ball caught his heel and ended up going the opposite way from the goal.
But, sprinting in out of frame, Hector Bellerin was on hand to smash the ball home and register Welbeck another assist for the season.
Did he mean it? Was it a Guti-esque backheel to bamboozle the Everton defence?
Probably not. But they all count.
Although, judging by Welbeck’s reaction to Bellerin scoring, he wasn’t best pleased with the accidental assist.
