Marcus Rashford took all the plaudits during Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday night.
And rightly so, after scoring an excellent free-kick and running the show upfront.
But the long-criticised Paul Pogba can also come away from north-west Spain with his head held high, after a stellar performance in United’s midfield.
The Frenchman was in fine form in the semi-final clash, completing 100% of his take-ons and completing 50 passes, while his through ball to Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the first-half was a moment of magic.
The 24-year-old ran the midfield as United made light work of the Spanish side, with Vigo’s defensive-minded duo Nemanja Radoja and Pablo Hernandez failing to stifle the former Juventus man.
Pogba had previously missed United’s recent Premier League draws against Man City and Swansea, and it showed.
The Red Devils lacked a certain oomph in the centre of the pitch during his absence, while their dominance against a decent Celta Vigo side told you all you needed to know about Pogba’s increased confidence in recent weeks.
Of course, Pogba’s recent performances are exactly what you’d hope and expect from the world’s most expensive player.
But after a difficult season, it’s starting to look like Pogba is on his way to paying back his £89million transfer fee.
