There’s nothing quite like the bond between Bundesliga clubs and their fans.
The nature of the heavy supporter ownership emphasis in Germany means a real connection between the players and those who turn up week in week out to watch them.
And that was really evident on Saturday when Neven Subotic returned to Borussia Dortmund for the first time since his exit.
The centre-back was shipped out on loan to Cologne in January after failing to make a single appearance under Thomas Tuchel this season.
But Dortmund’s famous Yellow Wall paid tribute to him on his first homecoming, despite helping Cologne to a 0-0 draw at Signal Iduna Park:
Subotic won two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup during a highly successful stint with Dortmund.
