It’s finally happened, folks.
Javier Mascherano has scored his first goal for Barcelona on his 319th appearance for the club, as the Catalan giants ran riot against La Liga’s relegation favourites Getafe.
Barca won 7-1 thanks to braces from Lionel Messi, Andre Gomes and Paco Alcacer, but the stand out name on the score sheet was definitely Mascherano’s.
With the score at 5-1, Barca won a penalty on the 66th minute when Denis Suarez was fouled inside the box.
And with such little at stake and Luis Enrique’s side cruising, the ball was handed to Mascherano to try and bags his first goal for the club from the spot.
With his teammates watching on from the sidelines in glee, the 32-year-old stepped up and smashed home his first ever goal.
Cue the loudest cheer of the night from the Nou Camp crowd.
The Argentinian was making his 319th appearance for the club, having joined from Liverpool in the summer of 2010.
He’s gone onto become quite the stalwart for the side, winning multiple La Liga and the Champions League titles.
But despite all of his success, he’d never managed to find the back of the net for the side.
So well done, Javier.
You managed to score a penalty against the team at the bottom of the table.
He’ll be banging them in now, surely?
