And it appears United are ahead of their rivals to land the forward after the player’s agent, Eric Olhats, described the Red Devils’ interest as ‘the most concrete.’

Speaking to French television programme Telefoot, he said: “We’re at the stage of gathering information from clubs who have a concrete interest.

“There is an unavoidable €100m (£85m) clause so that restricts the number of candidates.

“You have United, [Manchester] City, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“United were the first to come and see us and the most concrete in their wishes.”

Signing a forward remains Mourinho’s main priority this summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who may have played his last game for the club, is United’s top scorer with 17 league goals.

But apart from the towering Swede, goals have been hard to come by with Juan Mata next in the chart with six and Marcus Rashford with five.

And it appears the young England international is already prepared to play second fiddle to Griezmann after holding talks with Mourinho.
