Premier League star Joey Barton banned for 18 months

The Burnley midfielder admitted an FA charge of gambling offences

Burnley midfielder Joey Barton has been banned from football for 18 months after admitting FA misconduct.

The 34-year-old appeared at an FA hearing last week and was charged in December after it emerged he had placed 1,260 bets over a ten-year period as a professional footballer.

Players are not allowed to gamble on the outcome or any other aspects of games, as per FA Rule E8 relating to corruption and potential match-fixing.
