Manchester United have revealed they plan to bid £120m for Memphis Depay in 2020.
Depay joined the Red Devils from PSV in 2015 but lasted just 18 months before leaving for Lyon for £16m in January.
After an awful season and a half in Manchester the young Dutchman is reigniting his career in France and scored from near the halfway line against Bordeaux on Sunday.
And, according to reliable reports, his fine recent form has caught the of his former employers.
United forked out a world record £89m for Paul Pogba last summer having let the Frenchman previously join Juventus for free in 2012.
And it appears they’re looking to repeat their tactic of buying former players for ridiculous fees again.
Leo Satçhell, United’s French football expert, said: “Jose [Mourinho] really likes the look of Memphis.
“Sure he was absolute garbage in the Premier League but we all know the French league is the best in the world, so he must be pretty handy.
“After Pogba’s move last summer United are making this kind of thing their signature move, so expect a big bid in 2020.”
Unconfirmed reports also claim the Red Devils are eyeing future world-record bids for Depay’s Lyon team-mate Rafael and Watford midfielder Tom Cleverley.
