MATEJA KEZMAN’S time at Chelsea was largely forgettable.
The Serbian striker arrived with a reputation as one of Europe’s best strikers and left having been pocketed by even the most average of Premier League defenders.
But 12 years after leaving Stamford Bridge Kezman’s services could come in handy once again.
The 38-year-old is now an agent and represents Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is being chased by Chelsea.
Antonio Conte is reportedly targeting the Serbian to replace compatriot Nemanja Matic in the summer.
Milinkovic-Savic signed a five-year contract earlier this month but could still be persuaded to leave Lazio for around £30million.
Chelsea have an advantage over Arsenal and Man United, who have also been linked with moves for the 22-year-old, thanks to
Kezman’s presence as Milinkovic-Savic’s agent.
Since joining Lazio from Genk in 2015 Milinkovic-Savic has established a reputation as one of Serie A’s most complete midfielders.
At nearly 6ft 4in he won’t be found lacking when it comes to the physical demands of the Premier League.
But he’s also displayed tremendous ability to carry the ball through midfield, something Chelsea sometimes lack.
Conte normally sets up with a base of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic who, for all their defensive abilities, can face criticisms for lacking creativity.
Let’s just hope Milinkovic-Savic has a more successful time in south-west London than Kezman did.
