Has EA just sneakily made Lionel Messi the best player on FIFA 17?
EA has finally done the right thing for Lionel Messi.
When the FIFA 17 ratings were revealed, many gamers were shocked that Messi was some way off the top-rated Cristiano Ronaldo.
This is the same Messi who, week in, week out pulls off some of the most incredible distribution seen on a football pitch.
According to EA, even West Ham’s Dimitri Payet is a better passer of the ball than the Barcelona wizard (below).

Thankfully, the FIFA Team of the Year is in the process of being revealed – and Messi was one of the front three who had a ratings boost.
While Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo remains the game’s highest-rated player – fresh off the back of another award earlier this week – it’s Messi’s improved stats that prove the biggest talking point.
Let’s look at them more closely.
Combining all of his attacking attributes (passing, dribbling, shooting, pace) results in the Barcelona ace netting an average score of 98.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, achieves a total score of 96.75 (97 when rounded off).
The Portuguese still trumps Messi in his defensive and physical prowess, but when judged solely on attacking attributes, it appears the Argentine now has the edge.
Sadly, the card still boasts Messi’s outdated blond hair cut – which, we reported earlier in the week, is starting to annoy some gamers.
Oh well, we can’t have it all.
