The Croatian national football team had one hell of a summer.
The team went above and beyond everyone’s expectations taking second place, crushing the hopes and dreams of all English fans in the process.
When playing FIFA 19 however, you may have noticed that the World Cup runner-ups aren’t anywhere to be seen.
You can find the Croatian team’s licensed players scattered throughout the game, with the likes of Luka Modric for Real Madrid, Mateo Kovacic sporting his Chelsea kit and Nikola Kalinic for Athletico.
The reason they aren’t in the game is really quite simple.
The Croatian Football Federation and EA Sports have had a longstanding and ongoing disagreement about money.
Talking to Eurogamer, Tomislav Pacak, a spokesperson for the Croatian Football Federation, said:
“The reason why Croatia is not in FIFA 19 is because the Croatian Football Federation and EA could not come to an agreement that would satisfy both sides.”
Pacak continued saying, “Obviously, we value FIFA World Cup silver medallists and world’s best player in 2018 more than EA currently does with its offer, and we will continue protecting the value and image of the Croatian team and our players.
“We understand and share disappointment by the gamers and we hope this matter will be resolved in the future – HNS is more than open to that, and we hope EA will also listen to its consumers and respect their wish to have Croatian team available in the game.”
Croatia hasn’t been in a FIFA game since 2012 and it doesn’t look like the disagreement will end anytime soon since they will likely be demanding even more money after placing so well in the World Cup.
