FIFA 19: This is what happens when you LOSE the 1960’s football match in The Journey

Subtle but noticeable changes

FIFA 19’s Journey mode is a real triumph – and kicks off with a match set in the 1960s.

Here, you pay as Jim Hunter – Alex Hunter’s granddad – who comes on for Liverpool during a muddy match against Coventry.

EA really wants you to win the match – and makes the opposition almost comically bad. In fact, the game forces you to score a goal at the start.

But what happens if you lose the game? Does Jim still get the match ball or does it play out differently?

YouTuber DTT decided to find out – and lost the game 3-1.

Frustratingly, there’s nothing too different that happens. In fact, there’s just one very subtle difference – and it’s all down to the crowd.

When you win the match, you’re given the match ball and then the camera pans to the crowd who are cheering and giving Hunter a standing ovation.

When you lose the match, the crowd responds differently.  Instead of clapping, many have their arms folded.

Also, the winning team will run back to the changing rooms while the losing team will always walk.

So, if you’re on the losing side – keep an eye on the players around you. They’ll stroll back gingerly instead of a proud gallop.

So, there you have it – a couple of minor changes but nothing too drastic.

This year’s Journey mode has been well received by fans.

While much fuss was made about the inclusion of the Champions league – and how that affected the story – there’s a smaller, arguably more important touch EA added this year.

Alex Hunter has pledged his support

At some point in the story, Alex is given the option to sign up to the Common Goal initiative.

In the real world, Common Goal has 94 professional footballers and managers pledging 1 per cent of their wages in order to fight everything from HIV and AIDS to inequality and well being.

Dozens of pros have already joined the cause

Not only have they recognised the noble cause in game but EA has donated $200,000 (£153,000) to streetfootballworld, the organisation behind the initiative.

This will raise awareness for Common Goal and hopefully put pressure on other pro Footballers to sign up and pledge 1% of their healthy salaries.

Well played, EA.
