In the last couple of articles, I touched upon the changes EPIC have made to Fortnite during Season 5 (there’s quite a few).
This week I am going to chat about another, the final circle.
EPIC thought the final circles were too stagnant with players building tall bases and stalemate ensuing with many final battles ending with who can outlast the storm.
To combat this and to make the end battles more … epic they created an unpredictable storm circle that can shift in any direction and even outside of the current safe zone.
How on earth do you deal with that?
Well, it’s actually quite simple, when you get to circle 7 (the first circle where its zone will shift), building is probably the last thing you should do.
What the hell?
We’re playing a game based on building and you’re asking us not to build?… yes.
Once upon a time, I would tell my friends and subscribers to get the highest point within a circle and build a three-tier tower but times have moved on and building too early in the late stages poses problems.
Firstly, good players all want the high ground but whoever gets there first paints the biggest red target on themselves for everyone else left.
Secondly, you can’t predict where the next circle will be and if it’s over the other side of the zone, you’ve just made life very difficult for yourself.
Thirdly, the circles in storms 7,8 and 9 only take 30 seconds to shift making very little room for error and everyone else knows it – so players on the correct side simply wait for you to jump and run from your tower, gunning you down.
So, what do you do?
Strangely enough, my advice is to stay inconspicuous and get yourself as close to the next circle as possible. As soon as the klaxon goes … this is your chance to go crazy with your building!
Chances are, half the players are not taking this advice and are now panicking for the next circle.
Get yourself just inside the zone and get your 1×1 tower going, only build a couple of levels and trust me it will be like shooting fish in a barrel.
What if I can’t get close enough?
Well just get as close as you can, use your surroundings such as trees, buildings or slight dips in the hills where you can stay out of sight.
However, I am not suggesting passive play here – once that klaxon goes you need to pounce into action like a dormant volcano and wreak havoc on all that you can see.
And if in doubt, a great move is to even build walls in front of the players and block them into the storm, at 10 damage a second it will eat them alive – if you head to my montage video below and go to 53 seconds you’ll see me doing it myself for the Royale.
