When we think of the World Cup, we think of the best players on the planet.
But sadly, despite how good they are on paper, sometimes the best can have absolute shockers.
Which brings us to today’s article – eight players who have been so mediocre that it would have done their FIFA 19 ratings more harm than good.
David De Gea
Best goalkeeper in the world? Reaaaaaally?
The Spaniard has an incredible 90 rating on this year’s game – but has looked very shaky for Spain in the tournament.
EA ratings scouts are no doubt keeping a close eye on World Cup performances and on the evidence thus far, De Gea did very little to justify his status as the game’s best keeper.
The Bayern Munich talisman scored a record-breaking 17 goals in qualification but has never scored at a World Cup.
In fact, he’s been extremely poor for Poland at this tournament – and questions need to be answered.
Bear in mind that Lewandowski’s standard card is 91 rated – with 88 shooting and 81 pace – none of which we saw.
His FIFA 19 score needs to reflect this.
The Brazilian may have been one of the best players in the Premier League last season, but he’s been pretty forgettable in Russia.
Despite starting in all the games, he’s struggled to leave his mark – often overshadowed by Neymar and Philippe Coutinho.
World Cups are this man’s bread and butter – having scored 10 goals in his first two tournaments.
Sadly, Muller has been pretty woeful in this campaign – and was devastatingly ineffective up front for Germany.
The 86-rated striker did nothing to justify that lofty score – so we’re almost certain he’ll take a hit.
After flattering to deceive in the first game, Demeble was unceremoniously dropped for France’s final two group games.
The Barcelona youngster, who has spent much of this season injured, failed to link well with Antoine Griezmann and Thomas Lemar – reducing the French attack to mediocrity at best.
His 83 rating is certainly looking in danger unless he turns it around.
We expected great things from this youngster.
Kimmich is arguably Germany’s biggest talent – and biggest letdown.
The 84 rated right back, who received a number of upgrades throughout the season, was particularly underwhelming for his country.
If EA Sports was watching, the rating scouts will be doing some serious damage to his overall score.
Arguably one of the best defenders in Serie A last season, but looking some way off his 84 rating.
In fact, his Team of the Season card was a phenomenal 94-rated beast.
Sadly, after this World Cup his FIFA 19 score will be significantly lower.
He may be dubbed ‘the next Zlatan’ but Emil Forsberg has done nothing of note in this year’s tournament.
His 83-rating is actually a tad on the conservative side, but this was a prime chance for the Swede to stake a claim for a bigger score.
He was ineffective against England, and hauled off. And with that, his chances of a significantly better FIFA 19 near enough vanished.
