If PUBG, Halo and Crysis had a child, the product would be Islands of Nyne.
Set in a sci-fi universe with a keen focus on fast-paced, skill driven gameplay, Islands of Nyne is reminiscent of previous Halo titles and similar to Crysis 2 graphics wise.
What makes this game different to other battle royales is it’s emphasis on fast gameplay, different weapon mechanics an advanced movement system and first-person only.
Not only does the gameplay stand out, but the layout and structures found on its map is a brilliant switch-up from the monotonous repeated buildings found in other BR’s like PUBG, Fortnite and H1Z1.
The map has several completely different zones, with environments that can aid or hinder your play (depending on your style).
The seamless feel to the maps design can also be applauded, as each battle becomes completely different!
Instead of jumping out of some sort of ‘battle bus’ on to the map, you are randomly placed in the sky and are able to glide into a safe zone that will be made visible after three seconds.
The speed of the sky-dive and the faster movement of your character means wherever you land you should have time to collect gear before moving into the zone to face down enemy squads.
Nyne’s gear system
The weapons in Islands of Nyne are, at base value, nothing new.
You have the sniper, assault rifle, pistol, shotgun etc, however, you can change attachments for each of your weapons to specialise them to your style of play.
The customisation options also cross over to your armour.
Head, arms, chest, legs and a general shield, are items you can find to bulk yourself up.
What is different with Islands of Nyne, is the effects different helmets perform.
A more high-tech helmet will give you extra abilities on your HUD such as a compass. A medieval helmet will lack this ability but give you more shield.
Define Humans, the developer, will be sure to make good use of this customisation and will most likely develop it further in the future.
When’s it out?
The official early-access gameplay trailer was recently released, with a date set for July 12th.
The game will be coming to Steam and will be sure to have a busy few days with thousands of players interested in dropping in.
