As a handful of countries prepare to take part in the World Cup, a load of nations will be forced to watch from the sidelines after failing to make the cut.
But what would happen if they somehow found their way into the tournament?

YouTuber The MasterBucks used the FIFA 18 World Cup expansion to find out. Let’s take a look.
Firstly, the Youtuber added as many countries as possible who didn’t actually qualify to the competition.
Although some qualified teams had to make up the numbers…
Austria, Scotland, Italy, Chile, Ireland, Wales, the Netherlands – the list goes on – and while not every single country that didn’t qualify is in there, there’s still a decent amount.
In the interests of time, we’re going to skip through to the quarter finals.
The USA manage to pull off a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chile, while Greece edge out Turkey.
Elsewhere, popular Iceland, who have actually qualified for the tournament in real life, manage to beat Italy, while Sweden (also qualified) get the better of Iran.
Into the semi-finals we go.
The USA fall to Greece, while Sweden narrowly beat Iceland in the battle of the Nordics.
This sets up a tantalising final – Greece versus Sweden – something that, in theory, could well happen in real life.
The final kicks off and Greece score just 15 minutes into the game.
The Greeks net again shortly after half time, before a 78-minute penalty puts the game well out of reach for Nordic nation.
So, there you have it.
If a bunch of teams that didn’t qualify played in the World Cup, Greece would come out on top – according to FIFA, anyway.
In other news, Konami has already lost the Champions League – but it looks as though another huge licence is set to follow.
Borussia Dortmund, one of the few large teams PES has the rights to feature, will not be officially licenced in PES 2019.
Savage.
As a result, Dortmund’s logos, players, stadium and other features won’t appear in this year’s game.
Konami said it had an agreement with Dortmund for the club to appear in its games until June 2020, but “this agreement was prematurely terminated by Borussia Dortmund”.
