Hundreds of FIFA 18 gamers are trying to boycott EA Sports’ Black Friday activity to force changes to the Weekend League.
During the FIFA 18 Black Friday promotion, EA usually releases new content every hour for 24 hours.
These offers include multiple promotional packs, lightning rounds in the FUT store and flash SBCs (Squad Building Challenges).
However, gamers on the FIFA reddit are plotting to snub the activity by refusing to buy points or take part in the promotions.
Concerns over current Weekend League parameters is the main driving force behind the boycott – namely, the requirement to play 40 games over the weekend. Many think it’s ‘too much’.
One gamer wrote:”Currently, 40 games over the weekend is just too much. We are not asking to cut into EA’s beloved profit margins, just that they extend the weekend league to make it more enjoyable for the player base as a whole.
“We don’t need Youtubers, some will join some won’t, but if this sub needs to make a stand and spreads the word to the EA forums and Youtubers, EA will sit up and listen (look at Chemgate).
“Remember we as a collective have the power to decide whether EA gets its money or not.
“A boycott of Black Friday is quite a simple approach: simply don’t purchase any FIFA points during the promos and spread the word.”
The thread has amassed hundreds of comments – with many in agreement that something needs to change.
One FIFA gamer wrote: “Forget just boycotting FIFA points. Do not play the game. They can see how many people are playing and what modes. Send a real message and don’t play the game the entire Black Friday weekend.”
It’s not the first time the Weekend League has come under fire.
Earlier in the year, fans complained that 40 matches – equivalent to around 12 hours of gaming – is too much to squeeze into a couple of days.
Fans were pleading to the Vancouver-based developer to extend the period by two days – making the total ‘Weekend League’ four days long. However, nothing has happened as yet.
