Football Manager 2018: This year’s graphics have finally caught up with FIFA

  • Sport Interactive's popular football management simulation arrives on November 10
  • RRP is £37.99
  • The popular series has finally overhauled it's graphics engine

It’s time to say goodbye to your social life, with Football Manager 2018 dropping into our lives on Friday 10 November.

Sports Interactive’s new game promises to be one of the most vastly overhauled editions of the series yet, with plenty of overdue tweaks and changes made to the scouting system, tactics screen and game engine.

There’s also some pretty interesting new features in store, including Dynamics – which looks at the relationships within a squad and the social groups that form or fall apart.

And judging from we’ve seen of the new game from various screen shots and video snippets, the new graphics engine could finally see Football Manager compete with the likes of FIFA and PES in terms of stadium design and player likeness.

Well, sort of.

Leading up to kick-off, one of the most eye-catching additions to the new game is the new 3D cut-scenes, which shows players leaving the tunnel and warming up on the pitch.

Snazzy-looking animated team sheets are also displayed on screen ahead of kickoff, adding to the Sky Sports-style realism.

Even on-pitch lighting and textures have been enhanced, which Sports Interactive say “makes it easier for the match view team at SI to make changes in the future”.

Speaking in the Matchday Experience video on Youtube, Football Daily’s Joe Tomlinson says: “It’s not just the background tech that’s improved, the graphics have too.

“The art team have worked closely with our sister studio at Creative Assembly this year to improve the player models and stadiums… this affects how a player moves around the pitch and operates on the ball, which leads to a more authentic portrayal of the players during a match as a result.”

Exciting stuff.
